Ripple XRP All-Time High: $3.84 in January 2018

HomeYour Guide to Building Brands That Shine An Online Support

Ripple's XRP reached its all-time high price of approximately $3.84 on January 4, 2018. This peak came during one of the most dramatic cryptocurrency bull markets in history, when Bitcoin was also approaching $20,000 and virtually every major digital asset was surging.

What Drove the January 2018 Rally?

Several factors converged to push XRP to its record price. Institutional interest in blockchain payments was surging. Ripple had been signing new partnerships with major banks and financial institutions throughout late 2017. News of cross-border payment pilots in Asia — particularly between Japan and South Korea — fueled speculative buying. General cryptocurrency market euphoria also played a major role, as retail investors poured into the market.

XRP's Previous High Was $2.85

Before the January 2018 spike to $3.84, XRP had set an earlier high of $2.85 in December 2017. The asset then briefly pulled back before surging to its ultimate peak in the first days of 2018.

After the All-Time High

XRP fell sharply after January 2018. By the end of that year it was trading below $0.35 — a decline of over 90% from its peak. The general crypto market bear cycle, combined with regulatory uncertainty around XRP's classification as a security, weighed heavily on the price.

Can XRP Reach a New All-Time High?

As of 2026, XRP has come close but has not surpassed $3.84. The 52-week high as of early 2026 was $3.65. Analysts point to potential XRP spot ETF approvals and Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin as catalysts that could push XRP toward or beyond its previous record.
